ART WORKS offers Mask-making, Everybody loves making- and
wearing- Masks.
All Workshops can be tailored to your specific needs, so that the
masks created can be used to fit whatever National Curriculum area
your class is engaged with. For example in Literature wonderful Masks
can be made to illustrate, and explore, Traditional Tales, or Animal
Masks when studying Africa, India, or the Rain Forest.
Examples of particular creatures/characters can be made if this is
thought to be useful. General examples are always included in the
'how to do it' introduction - then we work from there.
All ART WORKS workshops are simple enough to enable the less
able to produce a wearable mask and yet adaptable enough for the
more able to spend time developing the masks character.
The masks are created from my own cardboard template designs.
These may then be built into the creature or character, using
newspaper, scrap card and masking tape. The masks are then
coloured with coloured tissue papers and pva glue. The end result is
remarkably strong and often visually stunning.
I also offer a training package for adults who wish to work with their
own groups.
I also undertake other mask-making projects for example:
This project "Framed Portraits" took place at Compton Castle.
Funded by The Helen Foundation, The National Trust and Teignbridge
Decorative & Fine Arts Society.
A number of schools were involved.
Photographs by Angela Gilbert @ Compton Castle.
