Most recently, at the Theatre Royal Bath, we put out a fairly specific and very challenging brief to a number of artists to undertake a puppet project in the community as part of the Bath Puppet Festival. Steve's proposal was by a long way the most inspiring and so we offered him the contract. It demonstrated innovative resourcefulness, with a sound knowledge of materials and potential client groups whilst promising the tangible results that we were seeking. Indeed, Steve met the brief of creating 10 huge, attractive and weatherproof puppets with two challenging groups of children (one from rural Somerset the other from St. Paul's in Bristol). The display on the roof of the Theatre was eye-catching and the children who made the puppets had a unique and fulfilling experience. We now consider Steve to be amongst our pool of project workers and intend to offer him more work in the future. Steve's talent lies in his ability to marry the learning, social and fun experience with excellent artistic results. As an artist he is individual and creative; as a facilitator he understands his client group, foresees the needs of the session or project and plans and prepares impeccably. Indeed I know of no-one who comes better prepared to a session. Steve is unflappable, charming, kind, caring and utterly committed to the development of children's and adult's creativity and self-expression. I would strongly recommend him to any employer who would wish to exploit these skills and personal attributes".    Kate Cross,  Head  of Education, Theatre Royal Bath.  "An enjoyable craft session with easy to understand instructions for young and adults alike. A Great tutor with good communication skills." "The children were amazed at how quickly the masks took shape, which greatly encouraged and motivated them". "Thank you for a lovely day. The children thoroughly enjoyed making the masks and puppets". David Rearden, Headteacher, Trekenner School, Cornwall. "Just a short note, to thank you for your hard work, during our recent Art Week. Your contribution was obviously a focal point and you pitched it just at the right level for our pupils. No mean feat! Every group enjoyed and benefited from your input and we very much hope we will see you again". Jon Dunkerley,  Headteacher, Courtlands Special School, Plymouth. "One of the best days we ever had!" "We loved it. It was fantastic, superb and absolutely WILD!" "So simple - with your readily produced templates everyone produced a mask - and what masks ! superb" "I just wanted to write on behalf of the children, Eileen and myself for the work you did with us at the Beaford Centre. It was good that the children were able to have a sustained period of time working with clay, a luxury we cannot provide normally in school. We look forward to working with you again in the future".  Mr. Forster, Headteacher, Sandford School, Devon. A great afternoon for us all, good fun without any fuss. We moved from one stage to the next in our own time. You had plenty of equipment, so there was no waiting around we found it thoroughly enjoyable." "A really good session with ideas that I have not seen before - it was excellent and the kids loved it." "Thank you Steve, you were friendly and very helpful and related to the vast age range, it was a lovely fun morning." "I write to thank you for the outstanding learning days you recently provided for all the children at Ernesettle Junior School. The staff  were very impressed with your professionalism and particularly with the way that you guided all the children through a challenging but achievable task. The children were completely engaged and motivated throughout their session. They are very proud of themselves and appreciated the way that you helped them so nicely. They are looking forward to taking their creations home once the teachers have finished showing off the wonderful work". Chris O'Loan,  Teacher,  Ernesettle Junior School,  Plymouth. "The quality of work was so good it made a great contribution to our art exhibition". "Everyone was inspired by your ideas, we have made more puppets since your visit." "Brilliant ! The group paid attention from start to finish, their interest was not lost at all. Everyone enjoyed the morning, staff included." "I am writing to thank you for your contribution to our celebration week. Your hard work and enthusiasm over the two days really helped to make it a success! The children thoroughly enjoyed working with you and were very proud of what they made in such a short time. Your willingness to adapt to our circumstances and work with such large groups was much appreciated. It would have been a shame for some children to have missed such a wonderful opportunity. Your excellent organisation and preparation were the key to your success and the LSA's who worked with you enjoyed every minute of it! I have kept your pack of information on file for future reference. Thank you for the templates they will be very useful! Once again thank you for all your hard work and I hope to see you again". Nicola Ramsden,  Teacher,  Stowford Primary School,  Devon. "Very  good fun. The ideas were adaptable for younger children with scope for more detail to be added for the older children. A brilliant mornings work." "The Puppetry session was thoroughly enjoyed, we were amazed at the simplicity of your ideas - excellent entertainment for the children." "The staff and children at Kingsdon School would like to thank you for giving us such a wonderful and creative day. The children have learnt a great deal from your visit and the practical 'hands on' activities and they have all said how much they enjoyed the tasks they did. We would certainly welcome you back for another visit and most certainly recommend you to other schools". Mrs Christine Dawson, Headteacher, Kingsdon C of E  Primary, Kingsdon, Somerset. "Thankyou for the wonderful Mask-making day. It was brilliant! To make 100 masks in a day and not leave a scrap of mess is so incredible. Your preparations and organisation of resources was fantastic. But the best bits were the childrens intense involvement and the finished results". Dorothy Armstrong, Headteacher, Kenton Primary School, Devon.
